We always recommend using lint-free cloths when cleaning your stove, hearth and fire surround, especially on textured surfaces like on the stove itself, as these wont leave lots of lint behind, which can be a real problem when polishing stoves, particularly cast stoves with a more textured surface.
Equally, these are ideal for polishing your hearth as often the surface can become slightly static through wiping it which in turn can then mean if using a standard non-lint-free cloth, you leave lots of cloth fibres on the hearth which once dry remove the perfect finish you should have achieved from your efforts.
Lint free cloths ensure that you're not working against yourself by leaving excess fibres on the surface - why make life harder? Use lint-free cloths!
