The cost of most replacement glass comes in around the £100 mark generally. For curved glass, you could be looking around three times that.
The cost to fit the replacement is dependant on the cost of the glass, as this has to be factored in due to the liability incurred in undertaking glass replacement.
An additional charge will be incurred if the door needs to be taken away to be fixed. This is sometimes necessary when stove glass screws are overtightened, due to repeated heating and cooling they become impossible to remove intact due to seizing and therefore sheer off in removal. Usually it is possible to use a self tapping screws which means the fix can be done on site, but on rare occasions for re-tapping it may be necessary to take the door away to be fixed.
Making sure the glass sealing rope is fitted correctly and making sure the glass clips are tightened to create an air tight seal, without over-tightening the clips and cracking the glass, requires some experience. It can take only half a turn too little and air will pull through from around the glass, which will cause the stove to burn efficiently. Half a turn too tight and the new glass will be cracked and you’ll be back at square one. Often one screw will be tighter than another and create an imbalance, which again, can result in a crack in the replacement and you’re back at square one, with further cost incurred. Therefore it is useful to be able to depend on our experience when carrying out a glass replacement.
We are able to order replacement stove glass from manufacturers of stoves we supply, for all others we recommend that you order this from an online supplier and have it ready for us to fit when making the booking. It is often best to first search based on the dimensions of the glass, or otherwise based on the make and model of the stove.
For this service booking we charge a base rate as listed below, and as mentioned above please be aware that there may be additional cost factor depending on the value of the glass. This is to avoid having to charge an elevated base rate to all. The base rate will act as a deposit in the event there is more to be paid upon completion.
