Stove Door Re-Roping Service

The rope seals of the stove door are in place to prevent air from being pulled through the door.

Over time, from the heat produced by use of the stove, coupled with the door being opened and closed, the rope will degrade and/or become so compressed that it no longer creates a sufficient seal against the stove body. As a result, air is pulled through the door rather than just the designated air-vents, which reduces the efficiency of the stove and causes the air controls to become less responsive. This is not only a nuisance for the user having little to zero control of the burn rate, but can also cause persistent over-firing which can cause a number of safety issues.

In our stove re-rope service, we remove the old rope seal and clean out the old adhesive and any other combustion debris within the rope seal channels. New rope of the correct diameter (specific to each stove) is cut to size on-site, and specialist high temperature end-sealing tape is used to prevent the rope ends from fraying. The new rope seal is bonded using a high-temperature silicone adhesive which is much more effective at holding and bedding the rope than the usual stove rope glues available on the market.

Please note that replacing the glass rope seal is an additional service which will often fall under 'Stove Door Glass Fitting'. In the event the stove has been well maintained and cared for - where it is possible to remove the glass fixings and clips without issue - we will include the glass rope seal replacement as part of the door re-rope cost. Where maintenance has not been carried out and the issues outlined on the door glass fitting page (glass retaining clips becoming seized etc) are present, the stove door glass replacement service fee will also be chargeable. By using high-temperature copper grease during this maintenance, and applying the correct tightening torque to the fixings, we ensure that the expense and time involved in future maintenance is reduced / removed, whilst extending the lifespan of the appliance.
